Summary: When Karri realizes that she may not be straight, she tries her best to bury it in fear of becoming a total outcast from the only community she’s ever known. From messy breakups to locker-room rumors, Karri struggles to fit into the mold of a straight girl, only to realize that hiding something doesn’t mean it goes away. Despite trying to come out multiple times with multiple labels, Karri is shamed and forced back into the closet with each attempt. Only after moving away from her small hometown for college is Karri introduced to a myriad of colorful, queer and proud people. Within the safety of this newfound community, Karri is more comfortable about her bisexuality and slowly builds confidence in her identity. In the end, Karri grows from the scared small-town girl wounded by rejection to a confident and self-assured bisexual woman!
Valid is a collaborative comic by first-time comic writer Karri Garland and illustrator Yhasmin Wilder. It is currently in progress, but you can read the first four pages below!
